Sam had a psychiatrist exam to write on Friday. At the same time on the same day, he had to attend a crucial holy event which he had committed already.
He went to the supervisor of the psychiatrist and talked to him regarding it. The test was to be held from 1 to 1:50. Sam told him the situation and asked him that if he could take the paper an hour earlier and leave when the students would be entering the hall so obviously he won’t be able to tell anyone about the test.
The supervisor rejected the proposal and told him that there would be no extended time provided, either you come, or you don’t.
Anyhow, Sam attended the holy event and rushed to the college, double parked the car and reached the hall. It was 1:40 and…
Did you sink in the story while reading it? Do you recall any background noises? The chances are that your brain entirely focused on the story and unconsciously you felt as you are the Sam of the story. This is how a strange thing happens in your brain when you hear a good story.
What happens to the brain?
Think of a time when you watched a good movie or read a good book, and you completely sank into the story. You didn’t realize that you lost awareness of your surroundings. You were unconsciously feeling the story world. This is how the human brain works. When it hears a good story, it gets lost in it. It focuses so intensely that it is unable to differentiate between reality and story world.
How to use it to your advantage?
Let’s take another example
Suppose you are in your college taking a therapeutic class. In that class, the teacher is explaining to you the process of the operating appendix. Now, there are two options. The first option is that the teacher is explaining you the whole process through the book. The second one is that the teacher is performing a practical demonstration. What would be a more interactive and learning based option? Option two.
Why were you able to answer that so instantly? This is because we all know that our brain is capable of learning through stories quickly. There are two ways for our brain to learn anything; through words and images. The most suitable learning method for the brain is through images as a story is associated with an image. And whenever that previously learned thing has to be produced on a piece of paper or just verbally, the brain picks up that story and plays it in fast forward in our mind and we can remember everything regarding that.
Even the college student nowadays, opens YouTube, looks up anything he/she is unable to understand or grasp the concept it in college, watches the video in which the lesson is being taught in a very interactive way; mainly through storytelling and quickly understands the concept.
